Startree’s latest release compiles reworks of Eugene Tambourine’s 2020 EP cut “Love Is On The One (No Rues, It’s True)”.

“My intent was to write a ‘soul’ song in the style of Imagination - that fabulous, fey British group from the 80s”, says Eugene, when asked about the song’s origins, “but it ended up becoming its own thing. Lyrically, the sentiments come from the fact that I’ve been with my boyfriend for 11 years and during that time I’ve been through some crazy changes and challenges. As much as I love this city, I don’t think I’ve ever really found my niche, socially or professionally. I could go on, but you get the idea. Meanwhile, my romantic situation is the main thing which is “so together”, on the one, like on the downbeat.”

Contrary to the standard Remix approach, the idea was instead to Respond to Eugene’s alternate arrangement. Contributors here are, fellow New Yorkers, Darshan Jesrani and Shane Moloney in addition to Florian Blauensteiner from Vienna.

Also featured is a North Satellite rearranging of Kool & The Gang’s breakbeat classic “Dujii”.
